The designer behind the studio

A decade spent learning the language of organizations doing important work in very different ways.

Which means I’ll get how your people think, communicate, and make decisions fast. You won't have to explain your entire industry from scratch.

Hi — I’m Bri. I find the story behind the name.

I'm a graphic designer and brand strategist with over a decade of experience across industries that couldn't be more different from each other: pharma, government, consulting, hospitality, nonprofit, tech, and everything in between.

I've spent a surprising amount of my career becoming temporarily obsessed with industries I never expected to learn about.

Every field has its own language, priorities, quirks, and challenges. Somewhere along the way, I discovered I love stepping into unfamiliar territory, asking a lot of questions, and figuring out what makes an organization tick.

That range is why I'm so good at what I do.

My path here wasn't especially traditional. I started as a traditional artist, trained in culinary arts, and eventually ran my own bakery before the pull of visual communication became impossible to ignore.

Looking back, those experiences show up in my design work more than people might expect. Running a business taught me how much happens behind the scenes. Working directly with customers taught me to pay attention to how people move through an experience. Making things by hand taught me that the smallest details are often the ones people remember.

Today, I help organizations bring brands, websites, presentations, reports, and internal materials together so the experience reflects the quality of the work behind it.

The story behind the name: Susannah North Martin was my 9th great grandmother — she was hanged during the Salem witch trials in 1692. The Suzie North name is a tribute and a reminder that the women who are dismissed or misunderstood are often the most interesting ones in the room.

— HOW I WORK

It’s about more than deliverables

The work itself matters, but how we get there matters just as much. Here are four things you can count on, whatever we're building:

‍ ‍

Cummunication

You'll always know where things stand. Without ever having to play chase-the-designer.

‍ ‍

Invention

Fresh perspectives, unexpected solutions, and ideas you wouldn’t have landed on alone.

‍ ‍

Perception

Let’s read between the lines. Get to the brief beneath the brief and create something perfect.

‍ ‍

Intention

Together we'll find a creative vision that supports real business goals.

— OUTSIDE THE STUDIO

Still making things, just differently

🐝

Wildflowers for the bees

I plant wildflowers to support our local pollinators. I love creating conditions for something beautiful to thrive.

🍳

Still in the kitchen

This culinary school graduate never really left. Cooking remains one of my primary creative outlets.

🌿

Rooted in New England

Home base is Connecticut. The forest, the coast — it tends to show up in the work. There are worse places to be a designer.

— SUPPORTING FELLOW FREELANCERS

Fear usually isn't about the work itself. It's about not knowing what comes next.

I grew up with self-employed parents, so going out on my own was never the scary part. But even with that head start, there were unexpected gaps — moments where I couldn't find the right resource, the right guide, or just someone who'd been there.

I'm still figuring things out as I go, but I'm also building what I wish I'd had at the beginning. Practical, honest, design-specific resources for freelancers and solopreneurs in their early chapters. I’m looking forward to sharing it with you.
